Heated clothing is enjoying increasing popularity nowadays, while it’s still unfamiliar to some people.
In this post, we will reveal heated clothing in definition, function, technology, types, occasions, safety, method, etc.
Let’s start.

1. Definition

-What's heated clothing?

Heated clothing is clothing that warms you up via heating elements powered by electricity. It includes insoles, gloves, coat heaters, etc. What you wear is precisely the same thing that you always wear, but you can feel warmer than ever before, thanks to the heating element within the layers of your clothing.
Whether you’re briefly outside or work outdoors year-round, heated clothing can help you stay warm and comfortable.

2. Function

-What does heated clothing work for?

Sometimes heavy coats aren’t enough to keep you warm in harsh cold conditions.
The heated clothing relates to heating and keeping warm.
It’s powered by mobile power to supply and convert electric energy into thermal energy, achieving the purpose of assisting in the heating of the human body.
In the cold autumn and winter seasons, heated clothing can actively generate heat to keep the body warm.

3. Technology

-How does heated clothing work?

There are usually 3 types of heating clothing.

(1) Electrical

carbon-fiber
It’s the most common way of heating clothing.
Heated clothing has tiny threads sewn in the layers of the fabric.
These thin wires are usually made of carbon fiber or a metal composite such as nichrome, which performs well under cooling cycles and repeated heating.
These wires are known as the heating element.
Rechargeable nickel metal or lithium batteries are often used for downhill skiing or winter riding.
Some models have removable controllers and batteries, so they can be worn like normal clothing.

(2) Stored Heat

To get the heat from a gel, the gel is warmed up in the microwave before heading out the door. Then the plastic packaging of the gel can be inserted into loth pouches or pockets of clothes. Once outdoors, the gel pack will retain heat for 30 minutes to two hours. The time depends on the wind conditions, the thickness of protection for the gel pack, and the size of the gel pack.

(3) Chemical

The chemical reaction-based clothes usually have pockets or cloth pouches, into which single-use chemical hand warmers can be placed. Warmers are about the size of a pack of cards, and they contain chemicals that generate heat.
Disposable heat packs usually contain activated charcoal, water, vermiculite, cellulose, iron, and salt. When they are exposed to air, an exothermic chemical reaction occurs, providing hours of heat.
A traditional hand warmer is a small metal box containing charcoal. When lit, it burns slowly and generates gentle heat.
Another chemical heating pad activates a chemical reaction by twisting the pack of gel. It can be reusable by putting the packaging into a pot of boiling water to reverse the chemical reaction.
Although these products are often referred to as “hand warmers,” they can be placed in pockets on the inside of clothing.
The heat generated by these tends to be the lowest among the heating methods mentioned above.

For those who love sports, the cold winter can’t stop their enthusiasm for sports.
There are many sports suitable for winter, such as jogging, walking, yoga, mountain climbing, skiing, etc.
However, it is easy to catch a cold when exercising in winter, so it is important to choose the right warm clothes.
The heating clothing can be intelligently heated, and the appropriate temperature can be adjusted to keep warm with the exercise process, which can promote blood circulation and reduce diseases.
Escort winter sports and improve your quality of life.

(3) Cycling

snow-cycling
Cycling in winter is also a favorite activity of many people, but in the process of cycling, riders not only have to endure the cold wind but also endure the sun and rain.
Therefore, when choosing heated clothes for motorcycle riding, attention should be paid to the warmth, comfort, functionality, and water resistance of the clothes.
The inside should be soft, comfortable, and breathable.
The fabric is better with good water repellent and good protection, so it is very practical.
Heated clothing allows riders to maintain physical fitness and enjoy speed and passion.

(4) Skiing

skiing
Winter skiing is a fascinating outdoor activity, but wrestling while skiing is inevitable.
It is in direct contact with the snow at minus ten degrees, so keeping warm is very important.
But wearing too much clothing is bad for skiing, and it can make you feel clammy and uncomfortable after sweating.
With advanced heating technology, heated clothing can actively heat and keep warm at 3 adjustable temperatures.
Designed for skiing, this heated clothing is waterproof and wear-resistant with light and breathable material.
Get the most out of your skiing fun with these heated suits.

(5) Outdoor Work

Heating clothing is suitable for various industries such as machining, construction, electric power, logistics and transportation, shopping malls, supermarkets, real estate, security, traffic police, and so on.
In a cold outdoor environment, it can quickly heat up for heating, save workers’ physical strength, make workers feel comfortable, and improve work efficiency.
Heating clothing heats up to keep warm, generates far infrared rays that are beneficial to the body, which heats the body for physical therapy, and protects the body.

(6)Athletic Competition

Since the London Olympics, athletes have also started using thermal clothing to keep their muscles warm between warm-ups and competitions.

6. Safety

-Is heated clothing safe?

It’s a frequently asked question? Is heated clothing safe enough? The answer is YES. It’s very safe. The heating elements are securely insulated within the layers of your clothing.
There’s no electrocution risk with heated clothing since they mostly use batteries of 5-12V, far below the human safety voltage of 36V.

(1) 5 volt

5-volt power banks allow people to use common power banks to heat clothing.

(2) 7.4 volt

7.4-volt batteries are likely rechargeable. Most 7.4 volt garments will provide approximately 2-8 hours of power, depending on heat styling and external conditions.
Traditionally, the most popular heated items are heated gloves and jackets.

(3) 12 volt

12 volts is the standard voltage for motorsports and power sports batteries. 12-volt batteries are designed for use on motorcycles or snowmobiles.
Since they use a higher voltage than 7.4v systems, they are more powerful and therefore can heat larger areas at higher temperatures.
Heated clothes are usually connected directly to the bike’s battery to draw energy from the vehicle’s battery.
Riders must be careful when wearing several heated clothing, as the battery may not be capable of handling the load.

7. Method

-How to wear the heated clothing?

You can wear it the same as your other normal coats. The only difference is, to get warmer, you need a power bank. Just connect it to the port of heated clothing, then press the button to start a warm winter.
